Superb players, stack knob J Bass here in stock and here is the story...
This was bought from a well respected vintage dealer just over a year ago, I was told it belonged to a well known session musician in the Chicago area and it was re-finished in Fiesta Red by Fiesta Finishes. It plays real well, sounds great and is a mix of original 1960/1 parts and 1983 J Bass Stack Knob re-issue parts. So as far as I can tell, here is what are you getting:
Late 1960 original neck with refinished headstock in Fiesta red to match the body. Original 1960/1 Jazz Bass body that has been refinished a few times by the look of it but has no extra routes and is in a cool Fiesta red over sunburst finish.
Original celluloid pickguard, original bridge, saddles and original control plate. It has 1983 re-issue stack pots and I do not know what the pickups are - they could be 1983 RI units too but I am not an expert in Jazz Bass pickups. Also included are a pair of aged covers and the case is a non original hard case.
Neck plate with 1961 serial number is original too and has traces of the various colours this bass has masqueraded in over it's 56 year life on it's underside.
On the upside is you are getting some great old wood that looks and sounds the part. Bass plays very well, it has a straight neck, nice action and the pickups, whatever they are, sound big and wholesome.
Another plus point of course, is it's not priced at 25k...
