Dean Guitars, started by Dean B. Zelinsky in 1976, is an American guitar company that has long been equated with excellent rock and metal sound. Zelinsky has stated that he created the company so that he could create the kind of guitars that he wanted to play, which weren't widely available. Dean guitars, then, had a sound all their own, but they were ideal for shredding and maintained their crisp, clear tones regardless of the speed of the hands playing them.
Bret Michaels, Dave Murray, and Billy Gibbons have all played Dean guitars, but Dimebag Darrell was the greatest proponent of Dean guitars, even leaving a contract with Washburn to return to his relationship with Dean.
