The pinnacle of modern music, the history of the guitar dates back to the 12th century, when the term was used to describe all long-neck, fretted, and stringed instruments. Historians have found drawings of what we would call a guitar that date back as far as 3300 years.

Guitars that date from after 1970 are usually not considered vintage, since they tend to be mass-produced. In general, the ‘golden era’ for vintage guitars are pre World War 2 guitars. However, in many cases guitars from the 1930s up through 1950/60 can be collectible.
The value of a vintage guitar depends highly on its condition, how rare or interesting the model is, whether the model is known for its sound, whether it is associated with an influential musician, as well as guitars that had limited production runs and modelsthat are unlikely to be reissued.
