Rare, Custom and Vintage Guitars For sale

The pinnacle of modern music, the history of the guitar dates back to the 12th century, when the term was used to describe all long-neck, fretted, and stringed instruments. Historians have found drawings of what we would call a guitar that date back as far as 3300 years.

Vintage guitars are works of art, that in many regards are superior in comparison to new guitars. Vintage guitars are great to play, attractive to display, they have a history, and are fun to collect. Vintage guitars provide a tone that you normally won’t find in new guitars, and at a price that won’t empty your pockets. Whether you are a new or seasoned musician, or just a guitar enthusiast in general, vintage guitars are a tempting alternative to new, off-the-line guitars.

Vintage guitars are also good investments. They tend not to lose value with time. Rather, a vintage guitar that is kept in good condition will in most cases consistently gain value as it gets older. Most collectors value vintage guitars that originate from the mid 1920s up to 1970. Guitars that are manufactured prior to 1920 are generally not as valuable since their design tends to be too primitive. Guitars that date from after 1970 are usually not considered vintage, since they tend to be mass-produced. In general, the ‘golden era’ for vintage guitars are pre World War 2 guitars. However, in many cases guitars from the 1930s up through 1950/60 can be collectible.

The value of a vintage guitar depends highly on its condition, how rare or interesting the model is, whether the model is known for its sound, whether it is associated with an influential musician, as well as guitars that had limited production runs and modelsthat are unlikely to be reissued.

At VintageandRare.com, we offer a wide range of vintage guitars from guitar dealers and luthiers. Among our listings you will find both six- and twelve-string guitars.
