Gibson Johnny Smith model: Serial # 81653008, 1983, Featuring a Handcarved bookmatched solid spruce top and figured flame maple sides and neck, ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl block fingerboard and peghead inlay, 17" Lower bout, and a Scale length of 25" (635mm) a comfortable Nut width of 1 3/4" (45mm) all original hardware including gold-plated finger tailpiece, solid ebony bridge with abalone inlay in base; gold Kluson Sealfast tuners; gold floating Johnny Smith humbucking pickup with mini-jack mounted to pickguard; correct quintuple-bound tortoise pickguard. Johnny Smith first worked with Epiphone and Guild before joining Gibson at the end of the 1950’s. With the Gibson Staff he created one of the most sought post 1950s designed Arcthops; the Gibson Johnny Smith Model. Johnny Smith and the people from Kalamazoo managed to combine excellence from the past with innovative improvements like the floating pickup a wider neck, somewhat shorter scale and slimmer body to improve playability and that typical tone only heard in the Johnny Smith model. This guitar is a most luxurious guitar, combining features like Body and tailpiece from the L5 cutaway model and neck and peghead from the Super 400 model.
