Alembic / SSB Series I Short Scale Bass / 1977 / Birdseye Maple / Bass
This has got to be one of the most desirable of Alembic Basses ever produced, the Short Scale Bass made famous by none other than my mentor, Stanley Clark, whom I personally learned every lick from Clarke’s “School Days” album back in 1976, this is an early production bass being the 723rdinstrument made by Alembic, completed on June 1st,1977, its made with a wonderful combo starting w/front & back laminations of Birdseye Maple w/a Cherry wood center core, its neck-thru body is constructed from 5 pieces of maple & purple heart, its fingerboard is a solid hunk of purple heart as you can see its purple color on the outside edges, its front & back laminations of its headstock are a combo of Zebrawood & Walnut, its got stock Series I PY-6 electronics w/its dummy-hum center pickup that go thru its DS-5 power supply making what most people say is the ultimate bass tone on Earth, I can agree, its got its share of play time & patina having a few chips in its 1 fret of its fingerboard & a couple a small crackles from screws holding its back plate on, new list base price is in excess of $21K. today, otherwise she’s rather excellent overall & 100% original having its Alembic order form, warranty page, power supply & its power cord all in its pocket in its original black tolex hard case.
