Ampeg / Dan Armstrong / 1970 / Lucite / Bass
This piece being offered was owned by the late Jim Ellison of Material Issue (Chicago, IL). We are honored to be able to list several pieces from his extensive collection.
This is one of the few basses Jim owned and we are lucky to have it. This is a 1970 Ampeg Dan Armstrong "Plexi" Lucite Bass. This model was first introduced at NAMM in 1969. This was a touring and recording bass so it has the typical player wear which is not too bad and some internal checking in the body. It looks as though the strings were low as there is wear on the pickup (as pictured) or he just played the crap out of it. The neck is true and made of Maple with a beautiful fingerboard. The neck scale length is 30.5". A very cool bass with some great bottom end tone and plenty of punch. This bass weighs 9lbs 14oz and comes with a hard shellcase. . Material Issue sticker from their former label, Mercury Records.
