Anno Galama / Flying V, Unique Flamed Cedar, Case / 1980 / Natural / Guitar
Anno Galama was perhaps Holland's most respected luthier of the bygone disco & pop era. There is not much to find on him any-more, other than Jan Akkerman had his guitars customized and made by mr. Galama, and that his stock of woods was among the most impressive in Europe. You had be patient, as he respectfully took his time for creating these works of art, but you would take that for granted because his guitars were very special, knowing his work was based on commitment, and his almost philosophical approach towards guitar-making was working in your advantage. Oh, yes... of course his guitars cost a fortune back in the day but worth every penny you payed for them.
After finally getting a chance to speak to mr. Galama today he cleared me on the fine details and background of this amazing guitar. That it is made of a very rare cedar (and not rosewood and Koa) and that's a sort of hide glue he used for the construction. I felt how passioned he still is about making guitars and how knowledgeable about woods and construction, and i couldn't imagine he stopped making guitars some 25 years ago! This Flying V from the 80s is really a piece of fine master art! Featuring, and this is very special - a Solid multi-slab Columbian Leaf Cedar body, with flamed Leaf Cedar top, all mastergrade woods, Neck-thru the body 'hide-glue' construction, also made of the same extremely rare to find Cedrela Montana. Using the traditional Vee shape but mixing them with the finest details that are unique to this day. Like the weight, this Vee only weighs in at 3.1kg! (that's 6.9LBS), taking care of perfect balance. And then that endless sustain! it keeps on going. You really don't believe your ears...Anno Galama is stopped making guitars some 25 years ago for health reasons, but despite the fact that he recovered, he never picked up guitar making again. He's the rare and extra quality Guitarmaker you only find now and then in people like for instant Johan Gustavsson who's by the way a good friend, but also a admirer of Anno Galama's work. The body and headstock are bound in a odd material that looks like some kind of early Ivoroid. After speaking to Anno, i still don't know for sure. What he told me however that his guitars are collected worldwide and are hide glue construction and therefore sustaining on forever! Now and then one these rare guitars pops up and gets sold for considerable prices. He made only a total of 20 Vees, 10 in black, and 10 in Cedar! Other features are: Ivoroid bound Ebony Fingerboard, 43mm at the nut, 628mm (24 3/4") scale length, the flamed Cedar headstock shows gold Schaller tuners and a custom inlaid truss-cover, EMG pickup with active electronics (battery in the pot-hole). The condition of the guitar is excellent and aside from the usual surface scratches on the body, this guitar is simply excellent, great looks, great weight. This is a unique example of mr Galama's great Artistry,a very rare guitar. With original V case.
