Arthur Lang / Artur Lang Deluxe Archtop 1950s W/dArmond PU / Guitar

Artur Lang is something like an "unknown legend" of German archtop guitar makers, a hidden gem if you will. Artur was born in one of the most famous centers of stringed instrument making in Europe, Schönbach/Egerland in 1909. There he attended the School of Musical Instrument Making and learned from several local masters. Eventually he had to be retrained as a metal aircraft builder for the Luftwaffe in the mid 30s. After World War II he eventually resettled to Garmisch and start again making guitars in really small numbers. Within only a few years he was able to gain a huge reputation among a small group pro guitarists. Between 1949 and 1972 Artur built about 800 guitars in his one-man workshop. Lang was a merciless perfectionist, from the selection of his tonewoods to the spraying of the finish, polishing and handing over the guitar to the customer. He devoted full attention to even the smallest single feature on his guitars, at least in his most "golden period" between the mid 50s and 60s. This Deluxe model stems from the 1950s and displays features worthy of its name. Built using all solid tonewoods, carved figured maple for the back and sides and carved spruce for the top and adorned with beautiful tortoise body bindings and "rings" on the side. These "rings" are not just a pleasure to behold but also serve a function; they stiffen the sides of the body, similar to the stringers of an aircraft fuselage. The avant-garde F-holes are graciously bound with multi-layered bindings and match perfectly with the 5-ply black pickguard which looks to be a later addition. The entire instrument was restored to perfection which means she plays and sounds like a dream, both acoustic and amplified using the DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1100 Guitar Pickup "Monkey on a Stick". This pickup can be tamed with a volume button, tone button and tone switch. It also uses the original screw on connector, the correct cable is not included but the pickup can be converted to a regular jack if requested. The neck is a comfortable C-shape crafted out of maple and walnut and holds a bound ebony fingerboard with pearl trapezoid position markers and the signature engraved metal headstock overlay. The trussrod is most likely also a later addition because Artur was well known for not using them. Condition is Very Good; the instrument looks superb with some expected signs of use. The guitar has had a refret, some overspray on both the body and neck, the top has one repaired crack which is hardly visible and entirely stable. Included with the sale is the original hardshell case which fits perfectly. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
