Baker / B1 ** ON HOLD ** / 2002 / Trans Black / Guitar
If you are reading this, then surely you know who Gene Baker is, but in case you've never heard of him, let me try to enlighten you. He worked for Gibson under the tutelage of Master Builder Roger Giffin of the Gibson West Custom Shop in North Hollywood, California. As the story goes, Gibson closed the factory down and from there Gene went straight over to Fender. After of few years with Fender, Gene was appointed to be a Master luthier and worked along side Robben Ford in creating the RF model for Fender. As you can see, Gene really knows his instruments and has the pedigree to back it up. A solid Mahogany body and carved Flamed Maple top gives this guitar some serious punch at the low end, but it also has an articulate tone no matter where on the neck you find yourself. And what a neck - the '59 profile is extremely comfortable and with a very solid feel. The B1 59 has become a very desirable Baker model.
The tone of this B1 59 is simply sublime. The guitar is very resonant and ringing sustain is there when you need it. I love hearing it acoustically and feeling it resonate as I play. It seems like the whole instrument, from tail to headstock, is getting in on the act! Not only is this one of the best sounding electric guitars I've ever had the privilege of playing, it is also one of the most nicely finished. When you handle this guitar, it does not take long to realize that Gene Baker is a master craftsman with an eye for the big picture, not only in terms of both design and performance, but also for the details. The construction is virtually flawless and I really believe this is gonna be one of those guitars you buy today for vintage tone in the future. This guitar is just simply an amazing instrument. Sorry no funny story this time, maybe that's because this guitar is just "all business."
