Binson / Echorec 2 T7E Disc Echo / 1960's / Effect
Offered for sale here is a valve (tube) Binson Echorec 2 model T7E disc echo from the sixties in very good cosmetic condition (see the many detailed photos) and exceptional working order.
Soundgas are vintage echo experts - we specialise in Binsons, Copicats, Rolands, and Echoplexes. We've sold many excellent Echorecs over the past twelve years to very satisfied customers (see our “Ainternational” ebay account for loads of positive feedback); we understand how they should sound and function. In our experience, most Binsons sold as being in working condition (even ones that are sold as serviced or rewired) are not up to scratch. Echorecs require a technician with a rare combination of technological skills: tape/recording, valves, mechanics and electronics.
We guarantee that this machine will not disappoint - our buyers have the added protection of dealing with an established business.
If some of this wording seems familiar, it's because other sellers have taken to copying our descriptions verbatim for their own ebay listings. This description is relevant to this machine only: T7E serial number 6920.
Please get in touch before buying with any questions - we offer discount for payment by bank transfer, but also accept credit/debit cards.
This unit has just had a total rebuild/restoration with our Binson specialist and is one of the very best-sounding machines I've heard in the past 15 years. It works brilliantly and sounds fantastic - whoever buys this will be getting a great machine in top operational condition which should give many years good service.
The T7E Echorec 2 is one of the finest machines Binson produced and it is increasingly-rare to find such a good one. It sounds fantastic and inspires creativity when you play through it - being a good quality valve unit, it also sounds wonderful as a pre-amp.
The motor starts well and the disc spins smoothly and quietly (some machines can require a nudge to get started if they've not been used for many months). It will go into gentle self-oscillation if required (this can be adjusted via the internal trimpot) and is capable of all sorts of cosmic noises - Binsons do tend to encourage experimental noise-mongering. The repeats are not hifi - this is after all 50 year-old technology - if you want perfect repeats, buy a digital delay.
These machines need regular use and maintenance to remain in good working order.
There are currently no operational issues with this unit at all, but please be aware that these units require looking after and that regular maintenance is the key to keeping this in good working order.
It has been converted to ¼" jack inputs/outputs and the mains socket is now an earthed IEC socket to comply with modern safety requirements.
Binson Echorecs are amazingly-engineered machines: where a tape echo's (ie Copicat) input sound is recorded to tape, on a Binson it is recorded onto a circular spinning disc which has replay heads poisitioned around it. It is possible to select single and repeating echoes or reverb-like swells - these units have a sound all of their own. They look fantastic at night (or on a darkened stage) with the magic eye valve gowing green and the backlit plexiglass fascia.
Binsons were one of the must-have pieces of equipment for bands in the early sixties, alongside the Fender Stratocaster and Vox AC30. Famously-used and abused by Barrett, Gilmour, Waters and Wright of Pink Floyd in the 60s and early 70s (Echorec 2s are very much in evidence on Live at Pompeii and can be seen on photos from many Floyd live shows), Binsons are increasingly sought-after today by studios, mix engineers and producers for their unique sound: Michael Brauer (Stones, McCartney, Coldplay) famously has an Echorec 2 in his arsenal of vintage delays.
Please be aware that it is a vintage unit and may not take kindly to being shipped. It will be well-packed, but if it's not behaving as it should on receipt, please get in touch. Please be aware that to own a machine such as this, you must be prepared to have it regularly checked over and maintained by a competent technician: it should withstand being shipped, but some calibration may be necessary.
At the time of writing we also have another T7E for sale as well as a very early Binson from 1959/60, a Baby and PE-603T - please see our other listings for details.
Soundgas Ltd, UK
Soundgas grew out of one man's love of interesting and vintage instruments and recording gear. Initially, it was just satisfying gearlust for old and unusual sonic gear to fill the studio. This has grown over the past 12 years of trading on Ebay, most notably as Ainternational (100% positive feedback on over 700 transactions worldwide), into Soundgas Ltd. Based in the UK, on the edge of the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District, we've a wealth of experience of sourcing and sending delicate and precious gear worldwide.
We find good examples of interesting, rare and classic gear and ensure that our customers receive them in as perfect working order as possible. We appreciate fine, unusual, quirky and well-engineered recording equipment and instruments: that appreciation shines through in everything we do. First and foremost we ourselves are musicians, engineers, collectors and customers.
What started out as a passion and sideline has evolved into a business with a client list that reflects our commitment to good old-fashioned customer care and attention to detail (and a love of cool, strange and oddball vintage gear).
We mail out a monthly stocklist to our customers which contains many items that never make it to Vintage & Rare or Ebay (head over to the website to register).
