Binson Echorec / T5E / 1962 / Green / Effect
OK, I know this is not going to be sold for £3,000 but I had to put a starting price on it so don’t be afraid to make an offer on this amazing piece of history… you may never know ;-)
This is a SUPERB vintage Binson Echorec model T5E that has just had the one single owner from new and includes the original sales receipt and was bought by a well known local musician (John Graham - more of which later) just around the corner from me at Ken Watkinson Ltd, in Cheltenham in March 1962 for the princely sum of £147.00
It is in superb condition, it has been well looked after and it works too! Included is the original carry case in period covering that looks like an old portable record player, an original bottle of oil, 2x fuses and inside are even 4x original Mullard valves or tubes!
John Graham was a well known guitarist who had a local band called The Ramrods. He sadly passed away in 2012 and his funeral came to national attention when he was buried in a guitar shaped coffin see here -

When the Ramrods were active, one of their claims to fame is they had another local lad playing guitar for them, a Mr Brian Jones who left the band later on in 1962 to form the Rolling Stones. The rest as you say, is history...
I do not confess to being a vintage Echorec expert so I gave this to a local tech to have a look at and he has said it all works but the magic eye is a little dim and the sound is a bit muffled although it is all there. In other words it could probably do with a service to get it at it’s best. I am therefore selling it on an AS-IS basis with no returns and in need of a service. He did also say that you can get some classic and very fun, Pink Floyd Pompeii type fx from it!
Cosmetically, it is quite excellent I think, there is very little in the way of corrosion, dings of scuffs and Mr Graham has looked after it extremely well… Have a look at the pictures and you will see what I mean.
All I have is what you see pictured just the unit itself and it’s fold in case. I do not have the connectors, the tech had to use croc clips to test this out so this is something you will have to source. It looks like the 3 pin AC inlet is newer than the rest of it too.
I believe these do not come up very often and especially in such nice condition, with an interesting history as this one has. Make an offer and I will see what I can do..
