This wonderful example was built 1945, one of a total of only 475 D-18s shipped that year. It incorporates typical post-war Martin style 18 features including lovely striped mahogany on the back and sides, a superb straight-grained spruce top w/early "Tapered" braces (just post scalloped braces), a great feeling Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard w/a nice reproduction bridge. Its tortoise pickgard is stunning & its all surrounded by its original tortoise celluloid body binding. The neck is mahogany with a nice feeling medium size & its been upgraded w/diamond snow flake abalone fingerboard inlays at some time. The tuners are open back repro Grovers w/cool ivory buttons. This example has seen a good amount of use yet remains cleaner and more original than most from this period. It is an excellent fingerpicker's instrument but also has a lot of punch and clarity as a straight rhythm machine as well. She's got 1 top crack repaired long ago. She plays beautifully & sounds fabulous. Overall she's excellent & comes in a nice newer Martin hard case.
