Charvel IMC / Model 4 / 1986 / Pearl White Metallic / Guitar For Sale

Many, many, many moons ago, my brother and I were having drinks at Charlie Magruder's in Marietta, Ga. Back then, the bartenders at the place had a thing where, if you ordered a shot of tequila or a margarita, they would have you bend over backwards over the bar and they would pour the tequila and mix into your mouth. Then you stood up, swirled it around and swallowed it. You had to be there- it was an '80s kind of thing, I guess...

So we're doing these shots and a dude walks up to the bar next to me. By the look on his face, he must have thought we were crazy, but my brother and I were having quite the time when he said, "Hey. You ever do hot shots?" Now I had never heard of such a thing so I told him, "Nope" and he said, "You got to try them. It's a shot of tequila with hot sauce on top." Now, that sounded somewhat interesting, so I ordered up three shots and a bottle of hot sauce. I can't remember the bartender's name to save my life, but I'm sure he looked at me like I had two heads and then here came the shots and the bottle of hot sauce, so off the three of us went down the hot sauce rabbit hole.

We hung out for a while, drinking these hot shots and bullshitting with each other. I told him my and my brother's names and that I played in a local band. He said his name was Eric and that he played in a band as well. Man, we were getting along swimmingly, doing these shots and making jokes about our lead singers and how lazy they were when this tall blonde-headed guy came up. "He said to Eric, "Hey man. Come with me- I got some people that want to meet you," and just like that, Eric said "See ya later," and was gone with the blonde dude. My bro and I went right back to what we were doing before- backwards shots over the bar and listening to the band.

The bartender came over and said, "You know who that was, right?" I shook my head- I had never met the guy before and didn't know him from Adam. The bartender said, "That was Eric Turner, the guitar player in Warrant and the other guy was the singer, Jani Lane. His sister live here in Atlanta." I guess my brother and I had non-committal looks on our faces because we were listening to Slayer and Vio-Lence in those days, not Warrant. It was a "whatever" moment and we finished out the night in grand style. If I remember correctly, all that hot sauce and tequila had their way with me the next day, as it was a combination that I did not regularly explore.

How does that story relate to this Model 4? It doesn't, really except that both things come from the greatest time in Rock n Roll's history, in my opinion and those '80s-early '90s were the most wonderful times of my life. This Charvel is nice and tidy, having only a couple of small dings and light surface scratches. It has been sitting in a closet for a long time, so we took it all the way down and detailed it right back up to the top. It has been set up by our technician extraordinaire, "El Jefe" and given a new set of Ernie Ball Super Slinky 9's. It will arrive ready to crush, right out of the case and we'll pack it up tight to arrive alive!

It wouldn't be too much longer after that Magruder's encounter that the song "Cherry Pie" would come out and I of course turned up my nose. No hairspray for me- I was a Heavy Metal guy but then Warrant backed it up with "Uncle Tom's Cabin," a song that displayed one of the greatest guitar tones ever put down to tape and I had to give Eric his due. Besides, they were selling out arenas and I wasn't, so a certain amount of respect had to be given, Cherry Pie or no Cherry Pie. To that, I tip my hat to Mr. Turner and wish him many years of touring success.
