A 17 year old Collings DS1a is a rare find, actually a very rare find, like Martin and others Collings started using Adirondack somewhere in the 1990's again. Before that it simply wasn't available due the size of the trees. And we all know Adirondack matures slowly, but when it does, it's the most powerful Spruce -species available for guitars. This is a 12-fret D-shape Dreadnought with Adirondack spruce top, Honduras mahogany back and sides and 12-fret Honduras mahogany neck with slotted headstock with rosewood headstock overlay, 19-fret ebony fingerboard and bridge, 47mm (1 13/16") nut width, 650mm (25-1/2") scale, 61mm vintage spacing (2 3/8") at saddle, dot inlays, Tortoise pickguard and Tortoise body binding, Waverly tuners, Pearl Collings logo and nickel Waverly tuners.
Gorgeous woods, Gorgeous tone, not only HUGE but very rich and powerful, with that warmth and silkiness, the wonderful smooth tone, of course there is that certain "sympathy factor" where a guitar speaks to you the first minute you pick it up and strike it, perhaps not so much the objective qualities- but this guitar simply is there when you need it, responding to the lightest touch, and with lots of headroom on each single string, making it extremely suitable for any style from delicate finger-picking to bold strumming and fingerstyle. With superficial playwear, good frets, simply a guitar in excellent to excellent+ condition, comes with Shertler Dual pickup with volume and tone control, and original Collings Case.
