For consideration is a very authentic piece of Espana.

Spanish through and through, this all solid, nigh on 60 year old Bianca (if I may borrow a non Spanish term) is full of character both tone-wise, and aesthetically.

Guitar making is in the DNA of the locality and the maker, it was a competitive time, and this piece keeps step with any of the other Barcelonian masterpieces of the day with its high spec build and deeply Spanish tone.

So with the thin shellac finish, the guitar is very responsive. Of course the trade-off to this natural material is the resultant cosmetic weathering, there is moderate wear throughout, as perhaps expected for an instrument over half century, nothing that could be described as damage.

The patina is particularly well earned and truthful, and makes for a super original, authentic looking and feeling piece.

Any weathering to the French Polish, as pictured, is purely from natural, honest use. Cosmetically, we can say that this is still very good for the year, 59 years, that is.

We don't refinish vintage instruments of this quality, yet this certainly could be re-polished to 95% of 'new' appearance if desired.

With the well voiced, light spruce top combined with the solid maple body, she has a dark, expressive tone with very good projection.

Structurally there are no issues, the bridge is solid, braces are all secure and we have made a full inspection and (very) light restoration.

The frets are well seated and have been levelled and polished.

Neck relief is good with no excessive fore-bow.

The saddle has not been lowered, there is 3.5mm of material still present above top of the bridge (unusual)

So the action is not currently set low, circa 5mm @ 12th fret, which again, is still respectable for age.

Of course the nice amount of saddle ensures a low setup is very possible, and it is your choice how we set her - a full professional setup is included, this will be actioned prior to shipping to any given preferences.

The original case is present, and there are some sweet little items included and original to the guitar, we leave it to you to discover their story, also the original purchase receipts and makers documentation are kept.

Noteworthy is the fine quality ebony fretboard and bridge, the ‘strawberries’ around the rosette and bridge show a sense of humour from the maker (in keeping with the guitar making traditions of the locality) and make for a refreshing and beautiful finish on this unusual strawberry blonde from the 60’s Barcelona!
