60's EKO Bass  Mod.1150  Sparkling Gold RARE OHC Ex code BA101

Problably less than 300 altogether have been sold!

The very first violin shaped electric bass guitar was the solid bodied EB-1, released by Gibson in 1953. It failed to attract much attention. Höfner introduced in 1956 its semi-acoustic 500/1, which sold initially very poorly. Then, in the years 1962-1964, Eko produced this model — also with scarce commercial success.

The Eko 1150 is consequently a very rare beast. Problably less than 300 altogether have been sold. They were offered alongside the 500, 700 e 1100 series, and followed a parallel evolution (see individual instrument descriptions for further details).

Suddenly, Paul McCartney made the violin bass concept immensenly popular during 1964. At the end of that year the Eko 1150 solid bass was discontinued and substitued with the much more successful semi-acoustic 995 series.
