Epiphone / FT79 Texan / 1964 / Sunburst / Guitar
he Gibson-made Epiphone FT-79 Texan had an initial run from 1958 to 1970, and this 1964 model comes right out of its heyday.
This particular model was made famous by Paul McCartney (he also owns one from 1964). He bought his guitar (also a right handed model, which he flipped around) in New York in 1965. List price at that time was 175 USD. It proved to be a good and longterm investment because he uses this guitar almost every time when performing "Yesterday".
Also frequently popping up in the hands of many other guitarists and singer-songwriters of the era (Like Peter Frampton and others), the Texan is a large-bodied guitar with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, that's well suited to big, open strumming and fingerpicking. The shape is similar to that of a slope-shouldered J-45, but with a longer 25.5" scale length, and it sports a unique adjustable bridge.
The bright, clean, and big tone of this guitar is immediately evocative of folk-rock albums of the 1960s and 70s.
Collector grade condition! Especially given the age, the playability and set-up are excellent. Do note the comfortable 1-5/8" nut width. Snag yourself a bit of music history with this one!
The guitar travels in a nice vintage hard shell case.
