Epiphone / Sheraton E212T / 1967 / Sunburst / Guitar
When Gibson acquired Epiphone in 1958 they decided to keep some populair Epi models like the Zephyr and the Century in production, even if the specs were gradually altered towards Gibson hardware and pickups. At the same time a new group of Epi models was introduced. These were Gibson designed instruments that were slightly altered for the Epiphone range but remained basically Gibson models. Examples from this group are the Casino (very similar to an ES-330), Sorrento (Es-125T), Olympic (Melody Maker), and the Sheraton (ES-355).
One distinguishing characteristic of the early Sheratons was its Frequensator tailpiece. While Gibson's 335/345/355 usually featured a stop tailpiece or in some cases a vibrato tailpiece, the Sheraton had a Frequensator. Later versions did come with an Epi vibrato or Bigsby tailpiece. Another remarkable Sheraton feature were it’s luxurious inlays: The fretboard was inlayed with a block and triangle inlay, and the headstock has a fancy vine inlay.
This 1967 model with factory gold Bigsby is in great condition. The lacquer is hardly faded or crazed and, apart from some subtle arm wear, undamaged. The neck has a rather thin profile at the nut but is definitely easy to play. This guitar was professionally refretted with correct size medium jumbo frets but apart from that completely stock. Alas the original case was lost.
