Epiphone / Troubadour 12 Fret, FT98, Very Rare 12 Fret / 1964 / Guitar

Paul McCartney and John Lennon played Epiphone guitars in the 1960s, likely slightly motivated by the fact that Epiphone was the more exclusive and more expensive brand compared to Gibson guitars. Back in the sixties Epiphone was really a big name, producing Quality guitars, and i still feel it's a big shame Gibson waisted the name by making it a cheapo Brand. Epiphone originally was a family business established in 1873, In 1928 the name was changed to "Epiphone" after Epi Stathopoulo, president of the company and one of the founder's sons. In the 1930's Epiphone was the only banjo company to successfully switch to guitar production and they made wonderful Archtop and flattop guitars and in 1957 Gibson bought the company.

This one is of the rarest Epiphone -USA made- flattop guitars of that era, the FT98 Troubadour, featuring flame maple back and sides, spruce top, originally equipped with two flamenco style pick-guards, but someone was wise enough to take them off very soon after the guitar was bought new, since they are really ugly. Other features include a 12 fret neck, wide 52mm neck, 628mm scale length, solid mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard with pearl block inlays, and Rosewood bridge, bone saddle, black peghead, with pearl inlaid logo and oval, Multiple bound body and deluxe gold Kluson single line original tuners with Tulip buttons, Impressive quality tone, and excellent condition with fair play-wear, but completely crack-free and a dream action of only 2.25mm at the 12th fret, This is a guitar that reminds of a Hummingbird/Dove from that era with that typical Warm deep and unique sound, but.. much bigger, With a good quality later case.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
