Epiphone / Zephyr Emperor Regent / 1953 / Sunburst / Guitar
This is a nice example of the RARE triple pickup, top of the range, Epiphone Zephyr Emperor Regent made in 1952 (a very early one) complete with original Lifton brown case this one is very nice condition and is THE actual guitar thet Tony Bacon borrowed when he featured it and photographed it, on page 142 of his brilliant, “Ultimate Guitar Book’ a copy of which is included in the sale.
It is in very nice condition, a bit of work has been done on the binding in places which is usual for these 50’s Epiphones but apart from that it is all original including finish, electrics and all hardware except one tuner that is correct but nickle plated, not gold. There are a couple of very minor dings and some corrosion on the gold plating in places but that is is really and it is a fantastic piece to look at as well as play with a nice low action on medium guage flat wounds. A jazzers dream….
Please have a good look at the photos you will see for yourself the excellent condition this guitar is in. Some of the figuring on the wood is exceptional and you can see why Gibson and Epiphone were arch rivals until thy mergerd in 1957. This is a guitar that can easily compete with any Gibson artop of that era.
Included is a nice, original Lifton brown/pink hardshell case that is the same as what you would expect an ES-5 Switchmaster to come in. It does not say Gibson on it and the owner seemed to think it is original and it may well be as Lifton made cases for other companir as well as Gibson.
Very rare model too - you do not see many about and especially as nice as this and with such literary fame as being featured in a major guitar book!
All electics wotk fine, all three New Yorker pickups sound great and all the push button switches operate as well. No problems there.
If you do want to play it I can assure you it will not disappoint. It has a nice low action with plenty of life left on the frets. It is fitted with medium guage flat wound strings and judging by the lack of fret wear this strings like this have been on it for most of it’s life.
