Epiphone / Zephyr Emperor Retop And Restored / 1952 / Guitar

Gibson and Epiphone have had a long and impetious past. Both companies were entangled in heavy competition before Epiphone was bought by CMI (the company which also bought Gibson in 1944). Epiphone was known as a fine producer of jazz guitars just like Gibson. The Epiphone Emperor is actually a direct response in Gibson's Super 400 and outshone it with it's 18,5 inch bodywaist.  Now the knowledgable guitar geek might notice a discrepancy between what this guitar is - a non-electric hollowbody archtop - and it's model name which indicates that this was once a full electric hollowbody archtop with three pickups and an abundance of controls. This fact is confirmed by the original 1/4" jack output which currently is not attached to anything, this is great because it opens up plenty of possibilities for the easy installation of a pickup if the next owner wishes to do so.  So what's the story of this guitar? This Zephyr Emperor from 1952 was complete restored including the inlays, retopped and refinished which has been done beautifully. On first sight it looks like it just came out of the factory. The trussrod adjustment has been moved to the headstock beneath a trussrod cover which is a welcome alteration. The restoration proces was done by Karsten Schnoor from Hamburg, who is a specialist at hand crafting and restoring vintage archtop guitars. On closer inspection you might notice a small patch near the neck on the upper bout of the top, which has been done very skillfully. The epsilon tuners are original, the frequensator tailpiece is historically correct and the pickguard is newer. You will understand why Gibson felt intimidated by the Epiphone Archtops the moment you'll hear this Emperor as it certainly lives up to it's name. It has a full, complex but defined jazz sound and is very resonant, something that lacks on many electric archtops. Consignment. ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
