Fender / Bandmaster AB763 Blonde (export Version) / 1964 / Blonde Tolex / Amp
The blackface AB763 Fender Bandmaster might not be the most famous Fender amp but perhaps that's a little unfair. With a 40 watt output it is more powerful than a Deluxe Reverb but not as loud as a Bassman or Super Reverb. It’s similar to a Tremolux amp in terms of power but has diode rectification which makes it just a bit cleaner and tighter.
The Bandmaster is very suitable for guitarists who need a clean Fender sound with some headroom but more compression than for example a Twin Reverb or Showman. The closed 2x12" cabinet and the diode rectifier combined gives a very clean and tight sound with a pronounced mid 60s Fender character. The Bandmaster is a great pedal platform too, it will work with pretty much anything.
This Bandmaster amp/cab combo in pretty Blonde is in great shape and fully serviced! Come by the shop or shoot us a message if you have any questions.
Additional info:
- All pots are from early '64 (wk8, wk10), several date stamps inside the amp point to assembly in/around wk21/1964
- The Blue Molded and Mallory signal caps in the preamp are original.
- The bias cap and diodes, some resistors and the filter caps were replaced with accurate spec, very similar to original parts.
- The amp has a replaced output transformer: it's a large Schumacher Fender branded one, probably designed for a Twin Reverb, that carries a late '72 date code
- Tubes are a mixture of NOS and new; The 6L6's are NOS National tubes, the phase splitter is a vintage Telefunken 12AT7, the other preamp tubes are a
Groove Tubes and unlabeled newer ones.
- The vibrato circuit works absolutely fine but the original footswitch is missing.
- The mounting bolts that suspend the amp chassis in the head shell are new
- Two control knobs were replaced but look very worn, they have been on this amp for quite some time
- The cabinets’ small metal feet are missing, the cab appears to have been fitted with casters sometime but they are long gone.
- The tolex of the cabinet has two tears on the underside but these have been reglued.
- The speakers in the cab are original 1964 Oxford speakers. The tolex of amp head and cab is original as well.
