Fender / Bandmaster Blackface Original 220v / 1967 / Black Tolex / Amp
The Fender Bandmaster might not be the most famous Fender amp, but perhaps that's a little unfair. With 40 watt it sits between a Deluxe Reverb, Bassman or Super Reverb. The Bandmaster is very suitable for guitarists who want a clean Fender sound in a tight version with quite some headroom, but with more compression than for example a Twin Reverb or Showman.
The Bandmaster has had a few revisions. The version that was produced from 1963 to 1967, otherwise known as AB763 Blackface is a two-channel 40 watt head with tremolo but without reverb. The closed 2x12" cabinet and the diode rectifier combined gives a very clean and tight sound with a pronounced mid 60s Fender character. The Bandmaster proofs to be a great base amp for pedals.
This amp 1967 works flawlessly. The optical Vibrato effect works great without great volume drop or ticking and is therefore very useful. A number of resistors in the preamp section and capacitors / filter capacitors are replaced. The preamp tubes are new, the 6L6 power tubes are NOS RCA's with Fender label from late seventies.
The cabinet was once recovered with black leather, the speaker cloth is turned sideways and the logo has been replaced by an approximately '63 type. The speakers are mid 60s Oxford speakers, although not particularly efficient but still work well and are a great match for the '60s sound. This head + cabinet has more than enough volume for playing in a band and is ready to rock on stage!
