In terms of the many Stratocasters we've seen come out of Fender's Custom Shop over the years, this 40th Anniversary example ranks right at the top of the list. It is obvious from first glance that every inch of this instrument was well thought out and constructed at the highest level of dedication to craft and it's fairly rare to own a guitar that's so beautiful, you are afraid to play it. That said, I'm sure you won't be able to resist plugging it in.

The flamed-Maple cap mated to a beautifully-figured Ash body is a perfect match and this combination is enhanced by a 24-carat gold-plated pickguard. Simply put, there's not another Strat with this exact combination, which was reserved for this particular 150-guitar run. The Custom Shop '50s pickups have distinct voices that range from a bright chime to a smooth and bassy Jazz tone. The highly-figured birdseye Maple neck is substantial, beefy and again, lends to the overall majesty of the guitar. There will be no slim-'60s tomfoolery here!

This Strat is in collector-quality condition and looks unplayed. There is a small ding on the very tip of the headstock (the second time we've seen this occurrence in this run of guitars.) As with all of these gold-plated pickguards, there is a small amount of oxidation and polish swirls. In order to keep the condition as original, we have left it as is. The package as a whole is complete, with both COAs and of course, the coveted diamond ring. In terms of being a valued addition to any serious Custom Shop collection, it doesn't need to be said that this guitar is a must-have.
