Fender / Custom Telecaster / 1967 / Sunburst / Guitar
A workhorse in Sunday best, the 1967 Fender Custom Telecaster.
This guitar is fine example though the mid-60’s fender three tone sunburst is more like a two tone. The red mid tone has all but completely disappeared from the guitar save a section under the pick guard and a small section on the back. This gives this guitar a very cool and unique hue we think. Other than this there is very little wear on the body and its in remarkable condition.
The neck is in good shape. The lacquer has worn comfortably on the both sides of the neck and it is dent free . The fretboard is in great shape and the frets have plenty of life left in them. The headstock is in great shape too with the decal being undamaged.
The hardware shows little sign of use. The ashtray cover has certainly been on this guitar a lot as is evident by the lack corrosion on the saddles. Elsewhere the chrome is in good shape.
The electronics have been modified at some stage to post ‘67 configuration though the capacitor has been left attached to the volume pot so could be rewired if you so desire. When considering the dates on the neck and pots, August 1967 and week 42 of 1966, this must be one of the last few telecasters to be wired with the infamous woof tone before Fender changed the scheme completely in the Autumn of 1967.
The guitar comes with its correct black Tolex hardshell case which is in very nice shape.
This guitar certainly delivers the classic tones tele tones, smoother neck pickup with a bitey bridge sound and nice blend when combinded. The neck is comfortable and sleek.
At once simple and versatile, the telecaster should feature in everyones guitar journey at some stage. The Custom brings an extra level of sophistication to the design.
