Fender / Jaguar / 1963 / Candy Apple Red Refin / Guitar For Sale
Billed as ‘faster and easier to play’ due to its shorter scale length and equipped with some of the most advanced switching options of any Fender to date, the Jaguar has always been a little bit at odds with its other stable mates but has always found favour in the underground. Even so, there is no denying the iconic look of the instrument, especially decked out in custom colours and covered in chrome.
The first thing that strikes you about this guitar is the colour, so vibrant with some nice wear on the body. The exposed areas reveal the multiple layers of not only red but also silver and the under coat from the refinish. We can’t really tell the original shade but we suspect it might have been sunburst as the headstock is natural. There are a few more dinks and marks but they do not detract from the overall look.
The neck might have been over-sprayed on the back a while ago. The fretboard is in great condition and has been refretted by Monty’s. The original frets are included in the case. The nut has been changed. The headstock has escaped refinishing thankfully and the original decal is still present.
The hardware on a whole is free of corrosion apart form some expected discolouration on the bridge. Elsewhere the chrome retains that unmistakable gleam.
Electronically some solder joints have been disturbed though thankfully these are not too many. PIckups are correct and don’t look to have been rewound. The pot codes read week 45 of 1962
Included is a later black Tolex Fender hardshell from 1965.
This guitar sounds fantastic. Unplugged there’s a vibrancy that isn’t always evident in these offset guitars. Once plugged in, the guitar has a wide pallette of tones available and both pickups work well so as to make any option a good one, again a statement that can’t be made about all Jaguars unfortunately.
Looks to die for with tone to match. Grab this one if there's a Jaguar shaped hole in your collection…
