Fender / Jaguar / 1963 / Sherwood Green Refinish / Guitar For Sale
A cool player grade ‘63 Jaguar. Body only refinish over the original Olympic White. A well used workhorse which oozes cool and vintage mojo. Read on for the full lowdown.
Here is a very cool and vibey player grade Jaguar from 1963, the second year of production. This guitar has clearly been a well used workhorse which has seen a lot of action over the years. At some point the body has been refinished in Sherwood Green (the best colour on a Jaguar in our opinion) which has been sprayed directly over the original Olympic White which is still visible in all of the cavities and neck pocket.
It's also seen a few other relatively minor changes which have been necessary to keep it a functional workhorse guitar. These other non original parts include a set of repro Kluson style tuners (at some point it has had different tuners on it), a replaced volume pot, a replaced wire on the rhythm circuit, a refret with medium jumbo frets and replacement bone nut and a repro bridge saddle on the low E string. The original string mute has also been removed at some point and is missing.
Aside from the above everything else is original including the original finish on the neck, original decal, original pick-ups and electrics (with the exception of the replaced volume pot and hook up wire on the rhythm circuit), original nitrate tortoiseshell guard and original hardware.
The neck has a very comfortable played in feel, like an old pair of jeans, and has a nice medium C profile typical of 1963. The neck is dated to May 1963. It's a guitar that is hard to put down once you pick it up - which probably explains why it has been well played over the years. Always a good sign.
The pick-ups and switching options (which can appear complex to the uninitiated, but are simple to use once you spend a little bit of time getting familiar with them) offer a wide range of tones. Essentially there are 7 different tonal configurations - on the lead circuit you can have bridge, both and neck pick-ups in either normal setting or with the 'cut' switch engaged which thins the tone out. Then on the rhythm circuit the neck pick up only is selected with a bass boost. This circuit can be useful when using the guitar with a fuzz box or the volume can be rolled down to turn it into a kill switch which can be used for some cool morse code sounds.
If you've been looking for a good player grade vintage Jaguar that looks uber cool and that you could gig with without worrying too much about it then this one is well worth your consideration.
