Fender / Jazz Bass / 1963 / Fiesta Red / Bass

This 1963 beauty, with her alder body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, clay dots, over body earth strap (Which was the factory spec back in 63) & her reverse geared machine heads (That still work perfectly) sets her apart from her counterparts in pure vintage style. She still has the original strap button on the reverse of her headstock, which was prevalent on some models at that time.

We think her body may have had a re-finish many moons ago possibly by Fender, She is finished in what we think is Faded Fiesta Red, which is sometimes interpreted (Not by Fender) as Salmon Pink or Coral Pink. It is also possibly **DuPont Shell Pink, (Please see the colour chart shown in the hyperlink) which was an official Fender colour only from 60-63. However colour it is very subjective and the photos here have varied slightly between shots, due to the lighting conditions when we took them. As such and having put the feelers out within the bass guitar community, the true colour has been a matter of some controversy. Whatever the colour though, as you can see, she is one stunning old girl.

Apart from the possible body re-finish, she is in pretty much original condition, except her pots have been replaced over time, but she still has all original cloth wiring & pickups. Both pickups are circa 6.8k

Her 4 Ply T.Shell scratchplate is beautifully mellowed, something which only time has given her. She plays beautifully well & her neck is as straight as an arrow & her action low. She has some rear buckle scuff & a few scars, but hey she’s is 54 years old & has had a life! She weighs in at a respectable 9lb 2oz, 4.1kg

She comes with her original Tolex case, which latches perfectly & besides having a couple of nibbled corners, is in great shape. The case itself is a very collectable piece & alone is worth very good money (Circa £500+) on the open market.

Basically she is one mature & gorgeous gal & absolutely plays like a dream, the ideal instrument for every self respecting bass player to cherish!
