Fender / Jazz Bass ** ON HOLD ** / 1972 / Sunburst / Bass

When we were going to purchase this bass at the Orlando Guitar Show, the first thing I did was look at the pots to date it. They are dated the 16th week of 1971, so I thought, "Nice! A sweet '71 Jazz this clean is a no- brainer" and we scooped it up. Then we got it home and it was time to clean it up and properly photograph it. As I began to really look closely at the bass, I decided to name it "Doesn't Matter" and I'll tell you why. Although the pot dates are from early 1971, the bottoms of the pickups date this bass to actually be an early 1972 model. Doesn't matter. This instrument has obviously been sitting in it's case for a long time, as evidenced by it's exceptionally clean condition but, like many vintage Fender basses, there was a strap lain underneath the bass and the rear has reacted to the strap, leaving marks. Doesn't matter. When I was cleaning the chrome neckplate and tuners, I noticed that the original owner ever- so- slightly etched his SSN on the neckplate and the tip of the headstock rear. Doesn't matter and the reason it doesn't matter is, this may very well be the cleanest vintage Jazz bass we've ever had the pleasure of acquiring and it is exceptional in every way, from it's 9 lb, 1 oz weight to it's sweet, vintage tone. The tortoise pickguard, lower thumbrest position and "long G" bridge are all more desirable features of the earlier basses. I just knew I was the first person to ever turn a screw when disassembling it for it's photography session and the original case is just as clean. As a bass player, I love everything about this bass, from it's looks to it's weight to it's tone and my heart may just have a soft spot for '72 Jazz basses because that is exactly what my first bass was. It was given to me by my Father and I have it to this very day. That all said, I have the feeling that there is another bass player somewhere out there that feels the same way as I do about a '72 Sunburst/ Rosewood fretboard Jazz and if that truly is the case, I am sending out good vibes so you can find both us and this bass. Bueller, Bueller...
