Fender / Jazzmaster / 1967 / Candy Apple Red / Guitar
This CBS-era Jazzmaster is in excellent condition. Apart from a few replaced screws and springs in the bridge it is fully original. The guitar left the factory early 1967; most components were made in 1966 but one of the pickups shows a handwritten date from January 20th 1967.
The great looking polyurethane Candy Apple Red finish has faded slightly towards a bronze hue, as by this time Fender used a metallic gold undercoat for their CAR finishes. The blocks and bindings look superb against the metallic finish and give this guitar a very distinctive luxurious look. The finish is in good condition with almost no crazing or dings on the front and rear but the sides and headstock have faded more than the rest of the guitar, probably because it has been hanging on a wall with daylight from the side. The headstock also shows some minor crazing as it has a nitrocellulose topcoat. Also, there are some dings on the sides and wear and a somewhat strange worn spot on the lower edge of the body. The headstock shows a contrasting line, probably from a cord that stayed in this position for a long time.
The neck of this guitar feels great, it has a nice slender feel but the string spacing in the nut is still relatively wide. The finish is nearly unworn and feels nice and smooth. The original frets are very playable and barely worn and this guitar plays great with a low/medium action of around 2mm at the 12th fret and .011 strings. The grey bobine pickups have a clear and defined character and give this Jazzmaster a nice and cutting amplified sound.
Included with the sale are the original whammy bar and a black tolex Fender case without logo that is original to the guitar but was probably produced around 1964-1965.
