Oh boy! This is my first LTD and it's going to be hard to let go. Where do I begin? We recently acquired this with a large collection of equally rare & truly brilliant Jazz boxes. This '71 Fender LTD, #25 of 36 made, is a hen's teeth piece. This rare Fender oddity is the dreamchild of Roger Rossmeisl, who started with Fender in '62building King and Concert guitars. Phil Kubicki was hired by Rossmeisl at the ripe age of 19 to assist. Along with helping with almost every aspect of the LTD, Phil would go on to help design and build the Rosewood Tele used by George Harrison on the recording of "Let It Be". The LTD is a carved archtop. The carving was done by Roger, and was learned from his father. The top is solid Spruce with the nicest flamed Maple back & sides we've seen in a minute. Freddie Tavares designed the circuitry and pick up for this model. He designed this specially developed pick up specifically for a Jazz sound. The guard is flamed celluloid that Roger had special-ordered from Italy. This guitar was also built with a double-expanding truss rod. According to Phil (Vintage Guitar Magazine, Feb. '99), Roger signed the soundhole of each guitar, as you can see in the picture. Phil goes on to say that he signed "a few" and this is one of them! If you take a dental mirror inside the f-hole, you will see his named signed under the top. This LTD comes with a hardshell case. The Jazz Department at Fender closed after Phil's completion of the last Fender LTD.
