Fender / Mustang / 1979 / Sunburst / Guitar
The Fender Mustang was added to the Fender program in 1964 and was aimed at starting and intermediate guitar players. The model evolved from the Musicmaster and Duo-Sonic student models and had a similar body shape, short 22.5” or 24” scale length neck and pickup(s). With the addition of a newly designed vibrato system the Mustang was born.
This Mustang from early 1979 is, apart from the control knobs and volume potentiometer, in fully original condition. The neck has a somewhat rare maple fretboard that, combined with the ash body, delivers a defined and somewhat trebly sound; especially when the bridge pickup is played solo the sound has a distinct Telecaster vibe. The typical seventies sunburst is worn and the red pigment faded considerably on the front which makes the finish look similar to an early two-tone sunburst. The frets show some playing wear but are still playable without issues.
The original whammy bar and late seventies black Tolex Fender case are included with the sale.
