This is an all original 1 owner & perhaps 1 of the very earliest production Pre-CBS Precision Bass w/a “Slab” Rosewood neck w/all early ’59 features in untouched original condition, its 1st caretaker, Ed Nice, played it every week thru-out its 1st 50 years before retiring it to its case, it has its original very worn & faded 2 1/2-Tone Brown’burst finish over a very lightweight Alder body dated 7/59 & weighing in at a scant 8 lbs. 6 oz; these 1st issue Fender Slab Necks are ridiculously rare as we’ve seen very few dated prior to 8/59, its “Unbound” Rosewood Clay Dot neck is super wide & very flat just like the final Maple Neck P’s were as Fender started transitioning to Rosewood, most Rosewoods have a fatter feeling neck typical of most Slab necks, she has no penciled on neck date as all Rosewood necks did not, it’s sporting a very low serial # (41XXX) stamped on its 4-bolt neck plate, its original Tortoiseshell Nitro pickgard is broken in many spots in need of replacement!, its split Pickup is super smooth w/that quintessential “Jamerson” funk tone !, its pot date codes are from the 16th week of 1959, its so cool from its nickel tuners to its threaded saddle bridge, its all original in all respects & still retains its bridge & pickup covers along with every single screw from new, this is perhaps 1 of Leo’s earliest known “Slab Rosewood” P Basses & has a crazy cool patina for a 63 year old original, it plays & feels incredible, she’s still far betta than most later basses, 8 lbs. 6 oz; 1 of the most desirable examples on Earth, she comes complete in her original road worn Tweed/Orange lined Hard Case.
