Fender / Precision Bass / 1965 / Olympic White / Bass
This Fender Precision looks just stunning because of it’s highly figured maple neck, very dark rosewood fretboard and nice swirly tortoise pickguard. It also has a great sound, offering near endless sustain but still with a great and defined attack to each note. The refinish made this bass much more affordable than a true 100% original, so if your objective is to play a lot here’s your chance to grab a beautiful vintage Fender Precision at a price just above Custom Shop level.
This early ’65 P-bass is a bit of a transition model as it has both old and newer features: while the August ’64 C-width neck still has clay dots just before these were changed to pearloid, the electronics are from early 1965 and the pickups have grey fiber bobines and were wound January 25th 1965.
There were some modifications and repairs to this bass:
- The body was refinished professionally in a nicely faded Olympic White
- The neck was refinished, although the refinisher took great care to work around and preserve the headstock logo.
- The frets appear new but original size wire was used and the refret was done very nicely.
- The output jack is new, as is the bridge ground wire.
- The original tortoise pickguard has a repaired split around the output.
- The electronics cavity rear shield is missing, as is the shield underneath the pickguard, the thumb rest and the pickup and bridge cover.
All in all a beautiful Fender Bass that shows why this design has remained in vogue in the past 60 years.
