Fender / Princeton 5F2-A Big Box Narrow Panel Tweed / 1958 / Tweed / Amp
Up for your consideration is this fine, rare, collectible, and sought-after 1958 Fender Princeton 5F2-A Tweed. This is the classic Tweed Princeton large box model.
Serial number P02479. The ink stamp on the tube chart says "HE" which dates it to May, 1958.
This is the final rendition of the 1950's Princeton circuit, indicated by the -A in 5F2-A. This revision abandons the choke present in the former model and features a tone circuit from the Harvard 5F10, yielding a sparkier top-end and plenty of brightness on tap.
This Princeton sounds absolutely fantastic. Comes with the original Victoria Luggage canvas dust cover.
The tweed covering is in good condition, just darkened a bit with some typical minor staining and wear at the corners and folds.
The circuit is in great shape. A new Jensen P8 has been installed but the amp comes with its original speaker too. The old speaker needs a re-cone.
Fender evolved their Princeton amplifier design over the model's long history, and this tweed narrow panel 5F2-A Princeton is a favorite version. The small speaker in a large cabinet formula delivers a fabulous tone with crunch, perfect for recording classic rock and blues. Fender made the Princeton in much smaller quantities than the student-grade Champ, and it offers more tonal flexibility along with a dedicated on/off switch and tone control.
Height is 17 in. (43.2 cm.), 18 in. (45.7 cm.) width, and 9 in. (22.9 cm.) in depth at the deepest point.

The Fender Princeton Tweed is a guitar amplifier produced by Fender in the late 1950s. It is a smaller version of the Fender Vibrolux Tweed and has a similar tweed covering, which gives it a classic and vintage look.
The Princeton Tweed is a 10-watt amp with one 6V6 power tube and three 12AX7 preamp tubes. It has a single 10" Jensen Alnico speaker and features a spring reverb and a tremolo circuit.
The Fender Princeton Tweed is known for its warm and rich tone, which is characterized by a smooth overdrive and a natural compression. The spring reverb and the tremolo add depth and dimension to the sound, making it a versatile amp suitable for a wide range of music genres.
The Princeton Tweed is also highly valued by collectors and guitar players alike, but it is a bit more rare and harder to find than the Vibrolux, and it's a bit less powerful.
Like the Vibrolux, you may have to pay a premium for an original in good condition or you can look for a reissue version.
