Fender / Showman AA763 / 1963 / Blonde / Amp
So you fancy sounding like Dick Dale...? Well this superb amp is one of the steps you will need to help you achieve this aim. If any of our younger readers have not come across the legendary DD, then a Spotify search will reveal his music is wickedly familiar, thanks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and The Black Eye Peas.
This is the rare, desirable and short lived AA763 version of the classic Fender Showman made in October 1963 as indicated by the 'MJ' tube chart code. This short lived version features 7355 tubes instead of the usual 6L6's. The result is a smooth sounding and very powerful amp that is as sweet as any nut you care to crack.
And... the icing on the cake is this particular model is what must be one of the very few versions out there that is a factory export model. This means it will operate at any voltage in the world without a step down transformer! How rare is that.
Have a look at the condition of this thing, it is quite glorious and aside from a few minor marks here and there I doubt if you would find a better one. The original smooth, blonde tolex is in great shape as is the blonde grille. All the transformer codes match up and the thing sounds like heaven, especially if you like your classic Fender twang.
Included is a 15" JBL D130F which although I cannot see a date code, looks to be period correct. It appears to me to be the original cone, with no rubbing, meters correctly but I cannot fully test this speaker so I am just throwing it in free of charge with the amp head.
Extremely hard to find amp this, especially a Worldwide voltage version and if you can find a cab, you would be looking at a £5k+ combination.
Dick Dale is famously quoted as having blown up over 50 of Fender's amps in developing this model. If you listen to his amazing style and appreciate the fact he was using .18 - .60 gauge strings - Yes, really...! You will understand that this is one hell of an amp.
