This is a STUNNING 100% original (with all virgin solder joints) vintage late 1959 early 1960 - classic year - original Fender Stratocaster in sunburst which has the original brown tolex Stratocaster hard shell case and some case candy - lead, strap, bridge cover and picks.
This guitar is 100% original and is finished in the original 3 tone sunburst that the red has almost totally faded from creating a nice amber burst effect. You only see this on 1959 and 1960 Stratocasters and it goes a long way to confirming the originaility of the finish as it is difficult to reproduce.
Original finish is road worn and has pick wear on the front and dings all over. The reason why this is reasonably priced is at one stage, probably when new, the Strat had a perspex back guard screwed to the back to protect the finish!!! Why on earth you would use something to protect the finsih that required molesting it with 7x screws is beyond belief… but they do say crazy thins happened in them ’60’s.
Whatever the reasons, the nett result is it has left 7x screw holes on the back that have over time sort of blended with the rest of the wear and in time, will probably eventually just look like dings. The offending guard is included together with the screws!
The good news is everything is original, including finish, hardware, electrics with all virgin, undisturbed dsolder and even the frets and the case.
There are no extra routes anywhere, this guitar has a brilliant feel guitar plays well, sounds classic and superb with a great strong, balanced sound from all 3 pickups. Feel of the neck is great and you can see why these 1959/60 Strats are so sought after. All 3 pickups are original winding black bottom, neck date is absent as you would expect in late ’59, body date is 12/59, all 3x pots date to 48th week of 1959 and serial number is 47535 - everything totally checks out! No monkey business going on here…
Weight is a good 3.2Kg, neck profile is classic ‘C’ shape and it has a wonderful, thick slab rosewood fingerboard. Very nice. What’s more you will get a suberb, all original 59/60 Strat with OHSC for just a bit more than a refinished one would go for...
