Fender / Stratocaster / 1961 / Fiesta Red / Guitar

A stunning 1961 Fender Stratocaster with its original Jennings hardshell case?

A guitar with quite the story, the current owner has painstakingly chronicled its story, from the chip shops of Weston Super Mare to Abbey Road. It can be read here.

A truly iconic finish, nothing really encapsulates the early 60s music scene in Britain quite like a Fiesta red Stratocaster. As you can see from the photos, this guitar has been very well cared for with some wear as you'd expect but nothing too extensive. The wear does expose the Dakota red and desert sand that is so often found under these factory Fiesta finishes.

The neck too, dated October 1961, is nicely worn with a medium thickness feel. There is very little wear on the fretboard. It has been refretted and the board may have been lightly sanded. The back of the neck is well worn and comfortable.

Plastics and pickguard are well preserved. These nitrate guards are particularly prone to cracking so it's always nice to find one that hasn’t. It has warped a little which is to be expected but everything else is all present and correct.

The saddles are correct as is the other hardware.

Electrically everything is correct. Pots are dated week 34 of 1961.

The guitar comes with a period correct, Jennings, Selmer hardshell case

Sonically we run the gamut from smooth neck to biting bridge that never gets too spikey or harsh. The pickups are well balanced accentuating the natural resonance of the guitar. The neck feels very comfortable and the new frets give it a reassuring feel.

The next question is, what more do you want? Grab it before it gets away.
