Fender / Stratocaster / 1964 / Daphne Blue Refin / Guitar

From our one of our favourite years for Strats, we give you this 1964 Fender Stratocaster in a sort of faded Daphne Blue/green refin.

Whoever did the body refin did a good job in authentic nitro. Clearcoat has been artificially faded to give it that distinctive green hue that blues sometime fade to, the original shade poking through to remind us of the original refin colour. It looks like it was done some time ago and from what we know about this guitars history, it must be at least 11 years ago.

The celluloid pickguard is in good shape with the customary crack near the neck pickup, a common fault with these guards. There are a slew of repaired switch holes and what looks like knob position markers too. the knobs too are reproductions.

The neck has been refretted with large frets again a while ago by the looks of things. Thankfully it has been spared a refinish even after what seems like quite extensive use and black light reveals what’s left of the lacquers correct although the finish on the back may have worn down or have been lightly rubbed down as it is pretty much down to bare wood.. The decal though damaged, is original. The rosewood fretboard is in good shape.

The hardware seems to be correct apart from the saddles of the E and B strings have been replaced with modern Custom Shop saddles. Two of the tuners are double line Kluson, these may be original as mid ‘64 was the change over from single line to double line and Leo Fender was not known for letting old parts go to waste..

Electronically the pickups are correct but the pots, 5 way switch and capacitor have all been changed along with some of the wiring.

The guitar comes with a non original hardshell case.

This guitar certainly delivers tonally. Those classic mid-60’s Strat sounds can be found here, all three pickups are well balanced and blend well in the in-between settings. It takes an instrument like this to remind us how versatile the Stratocaster and how iconic those tones are.

With the prices continuing to creep ever upwards, its these body only refinished guitars that offer you some of the best chances of owning such an iconic guitar. Grab this one before it gets away.
