Fender / Stratocaster / 1965 / Sunburst / Guitar
Superb L series Fender Stratocaster from 1965, mostly original and with nice, no logo, original case.
Whilst the pickguard is an original, wide bevel, thicker, white plastic, 1965 pickguard and is correct, it is not original to this guitar. The original one had a hole drilled in the middle of the switch cut out, for what reason though, I am unsure...
Serial number is L 91997, neck is dated May 65, all three pots are dated 18th week of 1965 and pickups are hand dated in June and August 1965, along with the initials of the Fender employee who wound them, Nothing has been disturbed on these superb sounding, classic grey bottom pickups and all windings are original and correct.
There are no breaks repairs, routes, extra holes of anything like that at all and the sunburst is still a superb condition, vibrant finish. Often during this era, arm rest wear is common to see but on this great example you do not see any of this.
Transitional logo on the headstock is even all intact and again, this is rare to see. There is some wear on the back of the neck and a few minor dings here and there but overall I think it is in most excellent shape to most I have seen. Case is nice too and fully functional.
Plays real well with a nice, low action. original frets are in very good shape due to flat wound playing early in it's life I guess. All three pickups are nicely balanced and are some of the nicest Strat pickups we have heard for a while,
As always, plenty of internal pics are available for anyone interested in this guitar.
Overall, a very nice package at not much more than a '64 would go for. Most people still consider the L series pre-CBS and this would be an exceptional entry point into pre-CBS ownership.
