Fender / Stratocaster / 1976 / Sunburst / Guitar
This 1976 Stratocaster is in great shape for an instrument that will celebrate its 40th birthday this year. The finish looks near new and the red of the typical ‘70s sunburst colour scheme hasn’t faded much. The black pickguard with white knobs and pickup covers are stock and typical for 1975-1976 Strats. The neck has a somewhat U-shaped profile and an Indian rosewood fretboard. The guitar was at some point profesionally refretted with medium jumbo frets and plays just great.
The ash body is a bit on the heavy side but not as bad as some later ‘70s Fenders can be. It shows a nice grain under the sunburst finish and resonates well. The pickups have a nice clear and percussive sound to them and give this guitar a nice slightly nasal Strat quack. The tuners were replaced and there are some very minor modifications and the refret, but the guitar is original where it really counts. All in all a nice looking and playing vintage Strat that is still quite affordable.
