Fender / Stratocaster Hardtail / 1966 / Sunburst / Guitar
Sometimes a 1966 Fender Stratocaster Hardtail is what you need…
Built alongside their tremolo loaded brethren from 1954, some consider these guitars an improvement on the design.
This guitar is great shape with just a few minor bumps and knocks. The sunburst finish looks great, having worn in that way that so compliments the finish and the look of the guitar. The current owner has had this guitar since 1968 and its been through some minor changes. The body has been repaired under the pickguard to fill in a battery route and soem modification to the control cavity. This work was carried out by Angela Arnott. She also refinished under the guard and removed shielding paint from the cavity.
The neck is in great shape. Its been refreted many times and the fretboard is in great condition. The back of the neck has been shaved and refinished. The headstock has the original Fender logo but the Stratocaster and contour body decals are recent additions. The headstock has been over sprayed.
Under the hood we find classic grey bottom pickups in brilliant shape with no rewinds at all. Pots are correct. The wiring and switch are new.
The pickguard has had two switch holes repaired. Hardware is in good condition with some minor corroison.
The guitar comes with a hardshell case.
As mentioned previously, there are players (who include Joe Bonamassa, Robert Cray and Kenny Wayne Shepherd) who prefer the sound of a hardtail Stratocaster. The more direct contact the string has with the wood of the body adds that little bit extra sustain. This guitar does not disappoint with plenty of Strat tone on tap.
For those of you who don't need a tremolo but want that tone, this guitar certainly delivers. Grab it before it gets away…
