Fender / Stratocaster Refin Ex Peter Thorpe / 1961 / Sunburst / Guitar
Slab board, early 1961 Fender Stratocaster with quite the story to tell
Bought originally by Peter Thorpe in October of 1962 from Jennings on Charing Cross Road, the guitar featured on most of the Adam Faith and the Roulettes records and was used up until the band broke up in 1967. In 1963 the guitar was refinished in black and then stripped in 1968. The current finish was applied in 2015 by RFB Guitars in Shefford, Bedfordshire.
This is a good refinish, maybe a tad too dark, but it captures the look of an early 60s sunburst well. Care has been taken to remove the previous finishes though some remnants can be found in the cavities.
The neck has not been refinished and has worn wonderfully. The fretboard is in great shape and the original frets have plenty of life left in them.
All hardware is correct and is in good condition considering.
Pickups are correct black bottom with formvar windings and all electrics are correct. Pots are dated week 43 of 1961, neck has a date of 2/61. Thankfully there are only a few solder joints that have been disturbed.
The guitar comes with a Selmer hardshell case.
Beautiful player that is a real joy to handle. As with most of these early 60’s Strats, this guitar sounds totally fantastic. Pickups are wonderfully balanced and has all the range of tones you’d expect with the added easy access to those fated ‘in-between’ sounds.
Come and try it out. I can pretty much guarantee you will not be disappointed and like us, you will fall in love with it at first sight…
