Fender / Telecaster / 1964 / Blonde / Guitar
This is a very rare Telecaster - pre-CBS maple neck Telecasters are just not around and very rare to come across. This is a very nice original late 1964 early 1965 L-series, Fender Telecaster, maple cap neck, complete with original hard case in superb condition and a great player too.
All finish is totally original and guitar has immaculate, undisturbed solder joints. Neck is beautiful, maple cap with original pre-CBS spagetti logo, superb original frets with just a minor amout of wear in the first few positions, nothing serious at all. Original single line Kluson tuners and all original electrics with both pickups dated early ’65. Neck date is December 1964 and both pots date to 50th week of 1964. This was probaly one of the last pre-CBS Tele’s ever made!
It has the desirable maple cap neck and that feels superb. It plays brilliantly, there is no choking when strings are bent, action is nice and low, neck perfectly straight with no shims and the 2 pickups are very strong, balanced and classic pre-CBS Tele sound. Also included is the very nice, original and correct black case with no logo which is in very good condition (like the rest of the guitar) but the handle has lost it’s leather.
The weight is an easy, 3.5Kg and the serial number is L613960. This was acquired from a collector who paid a lot more than the asking price here in 2008 at the height of the market. These are so rare to find now (much rarer than 50’s Teles) and if you do a search you find just 2 similair ones for sale. None of them are as good as this is and they are priced at $20k and the other at $27k.
