Fender / Telecaster / 1975 / Black / Guitar
Here's an early 1975 Fender Telecaster in it's original rare black finish, and it's a good one! You can tell it's lived a life on the road not only by how it looks, but also by how it sounds. This is a very resonant and lively Tele with a comfortable average to light weight.
Though not a closet-queen it's in "played-but-not-abused" condition and shows a beautiful vintage patina. There are some dents, and scratches to be expected as well as some finish-checking here and there. Fret's appear to be original and show some wear, especially up to the 7th fret, but they're still at about 80% and play without buzzing. The neck has worn in nicely showing some sings of finish chipping off. This is not from re-fretting as it appears, but is just genuine play-wear. Setup with low action it plays effortless and the slightly microphonic pickups offer sublime bell-like tones and twang!
All remains 100% original, with the pots reading week 47 of 1974 and the neckstamp indicating the 5th week of 1975, this Tele is dated as an early 1975 example. The covers of the tuners are not yet fully closed and show the shafts on the bottom, like you'll find from 1967 up to late 1974. It also still features the desirable cloth-wired staggered brigde pickup! The only thing not original are a few screws holding the pickguard. It may have had a different pickguard on it once, but the original typical thick 3-ply guard is on it now. The Fender tail-logo hardcase is a bit worn yet it's solid and all latches work.
Pre-1976 Tele's are still rather close to late 60's and early 70's Tele's, and if you can find a lightweight resonant one like this, they are a great alternative both as a player and investment-piece to their now 5 to 7K predecessors. With prices of late 60's guitars becoming rather inaccessible these early to mid 70's Tele's have been substantially appreciating in value and will very likely continue to do so. All in all it's a terrific playing Tele, and it will make a great investment too, especially in this rare black finish.
