Gibson / 1944 Southern Jumbo "Banner" / 1944 / Guitar
The Southern Jumbo was introduced in 1942 as the top-of-the-line model (the Super Jumbo was discontinued due to the war) to replace the J-55, which was the top model of the J (Jumbo) series. It was positioned as the so-called deluxe version of the J-45, which was introduced in the same year, and featured such decorative features as double parallelogram inlays, sound hole/double ring, and 7-ply multiple binding on the body. It is known to have been used by Hank Williams and Woody Guthrie, but in Japan, Masayoshi Yamazaki's use of it brought it to the attention of Japanese youth, and it is now as popular as the J-45.
This instrument was made in 1944, and it has the Gibson script logo and "ONLY A GIBSON IS GOOD ENOUGH" logo mark, which is commonly known as "banner head". The guitar also features a 19-fret neck without adjustable rods, scalloped bracing, a long-saddle lower belly bridge, non-binding, a drop-shaped small pickguard, and separate open-gear pegs. open gear pegs.
The string height is adjusted to about 2.9mm for the 6th string and 2.2mm for the 1st string at the 12th fret, and the saddle height is about 1.3 to 2.8mm. There is no significant wear on the frets or fingerboard, and it plays well. There is a strap pin attached to the heel. There is a crack repair on the bottom of the pickguard, but there are no other crack repairs or patches on the guitar, so it is in pretty good condition considering its age. It's in pretty good condition considering its age, but the weather check and scratches are still there.
It's 77 years old, but it's still got that big sound! The body has been played and nurtured for many years, and combined with the vicious (lol) ultra-thick neck, it has a thick, yet lustrous sound that is unbeatable. This is one of the great instruments that have created the brilliant history of Gibson Round Shoulder.
