Gibson / 1966~67 Dove Cutaway Custom / 1960 / Guitar
Product Details
________________________________
The Dove is a square-shouldered model introduced in 1962 as a higher-end version of the Hummingbird. This is a very rare one with a Florentine cutaway similar to the CF-100E. It is probably a prototype or one-off custom-ordered model. From the serial number and other specifications, it is thought to have been manufactured around 1966-67. The tortoiseshell pickguard with no pictorial design is also distinctive.
It has a spruce top and maple back and sides body, one-piece mahogany neck, 25 1/2 scale, non-scalloped X bracing, and Kluson VX-501 aka “Waffleback" Nickel tuners. The subdued sunburst color also creates a tasteful atmosphere. The crown inlay on the head and the double parallelogram position inlay give it a gorgeous appearance. The bridge with T.O.M. saddles is especially characteristic of the 60s Doves, and the dove-shaped inlays on both sides are beautiful.
The sound is bright and light, yet has a solid core and good separation. There is a 10cm crack repair mark on the bottom of the top, a crack repair mark under the pickguard on the cutaway side, a crack repair mark on the bracing edge under the pickguard, and overspray throughout the grip of the neck. However, it has been well adjusted and can be played without any problems.
