Gibson / Advanced Jumbo AJ Sunburst (1936) Vintage And Very Rare / Guitar

Gibson AJ 1936, FON reads 4-1075, The Advanced Jumbo replaced the original Gibson Jumbo in 1935 and came with rosewood back and sides and Adirondack spruce top, it's one of the rarest guitars Gibson ever made with a production not exceeding 300, also called the 'Bone Crusher' referring to Martin's D-28 Herringbone, features include 650mm (25.5) scale length and 44mm or (1.725") nut width. The Advanced Jumbo was retailed at $80 that's more than double the price of the J35 introduced at the same time. The Advanced Jumbo was probably the best flattop in Gibson's entire history, however, production ceased after a small run of 300 only. The pre-war AJ is one of the rarest guitars and considered highly collectible.  Only 300 were made and this is our third ever. It’s the best and cleanest so far and like Martin guitars they are often bought for investment reasons or for the combination of recording and investment. They are also called ‘bone crusher’ referring to the pre-war Martin D28 Herringbone. And they sure are just that! The powerful mid is unheard. No guitar comes even near. The bass and the trebles are less outstanding than on the Vintage Martin D28, but that’s considered a quality in recording. hence this guitar is one of the best recording instruments available, if not the best. That's what is making this guitar among the rarest most sought after vintage flattops in the world. This is quite an amazing example, and a crackfree example with all original finish, with rosewood back/sides and Adirondack spruce top. It had a neck reset done by our shop, and the the small rosewood rectangular bridge was replaced prior to the neck reset (if we would have done it, it wouldnt have shown) the bridge however is a perfect replacement. it also shows two holes under the top that are pefectly filled, we have no idea for what reason they were there. It shows loads of weather checking, dings, nicks, scratches, scuffs and finish checking but no cracks, making this example possibly one of the cleanest on the market (if you can find one at all) there is not even a strap pin added! It comes with original tuners, original finish, original fingerboard, Script logo and twin arrowhead and diamond center inlay on the headstock, repeated on the bound fingerboard. The case is reddish - brown, making it an odd color, but i believe it's original to the guitar and still in good working condition. Our Repair shop gave the guitar a neck reset, professional refret, reglued the bridge, and it's one hell of a guitar. a true bone crusher, and one of the finest guitars we ever were able to offer.

ABOUT US

I have always been opposed to being trapped into a job eight hours a day to purchase the free time to do what I enjoy. That’s why i started the Fellowship of Acoustics. The fellowship of acoustics was founded by Rudi Bults, Guitarist and obsessed with tone and wood. The idea was offering real expertise when trading and selling the finest instruments in the world from our showroom in Bergentheim, Netherlands. Helping others find the right tools and enjoying an atmosphere that’s unhurried, honest and informative that’s my go. We are nothing like the "supermarket" style music stores, but specialize in string-things only. We are widely known for Flattop guitars but also sell electric, mandolins & banjo’s, amps, parts, and accessories. Our store has earned the reputation for being a great place to shop for the best products and service.
It is our hope that this new website - much more than a list of "gear" for sale - will serve as an example of our commitment to offering a more personal approach, a friendly atmosphere, and an ultimately more satisfying experience for our friends and customers.
If you have any questions just dial +31-523-232205 or e-mail info@thefellowshipofacoustics.com My name is Rudi Bults, and I’m always here to help out. Wherever possible, we would recommend that you visit our store and experience our instruments and service first hand. However, because of our high standards you can be confident of ordering online from us. We hope you enjoy your visit to our site, and welcome your feedback.
