Gibson / Banner J-45 / 1942 / Sunburst / Guitar
Here is a vintage Gibson we don't see everyday, a Banner Gibson J-45
The Gibson J-45 model acoustic guitar was introduced in the summer of 1942 as an update for the J-35. It sported Gibson’s new gold script logo and a flashy banner on the front of the headstock that reads “Only a Gibson is Good Enough.” This banner was mysteriously discontinued right at the end of the war. For more information on banner era Gibson guitars, please check out John Thomas’ book, Kalamazoo Gals. Working songwriters and performers have been using the J-45 model for decades.
This 1942 Gibson J-45 is an exceptionally fine instrument for both the collector and player.
The FON has faded away.
We love the tone of this guitar ! It's as you expect it to be: loud, dry, woody and articulate.
Stunning sunburst finish with beautiful crazing (top)
Adirondac top and Mahogany back and sides.
Very chunky and comfortable mahogany neck. The guitar had a neck reset and a pro refret in the past. Has a truss rod. Action is low. Neck is straight.
The guitar has some play ware ivging it its charm and mojo
The tuners and pickguard are original. The bridge is a newer one (nicely done!)
Comes with its original croco style vintage guitar case.
